~~~Mission Call~~~
4:09 PM | Author: Austin Keith Heywood
The time has arrived that I should start asking questions... even though my mother says not to ask too many questions so close to Christmas!  So, I'll just ask one! Anywho, I have had my interviews and my mission papers are in Salt Lake's possession!  I plan to have my call in my hands by about the 18th of December, and I wish to know from each individual who has the privilege of writing on this blog to make a guess and post it! For a complete listing of current open missions got to:
http://www.mission.net/cgi-bin/mission_index.cgi?action=show_current
The closest person (geographically) to the "Best Mission in the World" will win a prize!*
*Winner must be present to redeem prize. No substitutions, No changing guesses after call has been opened, and No exceptions.**
**Ok so I might be a little lenient*** on the no exceptions rule.*
***Lenient is to mean that you change your guess if the change is made before you hear**** of my call.
****Hearing may also be interpreted as to have the opportunity***** to have heard.
*****Opportunity is defined as any person or persons****** in your immediate family having heard directly where I have been called.
******Since my mother and father will both be present when I open my call you may simply defer that all paersons reading this will have no chance to change their guess once once the moment has been reached that I read to myself or aloud to those present where I have been called! haha It looks like I could make a wonderful legislator!... But looks can be deceiving! ;)
Ummm.. Melodie, Russia is closed to Americans now due to visa problems. So you might consider changing your answer! :) My brother just got off his mission, the one north of moscow- Samara. So we know all about it. :) Hmmmm... Where is Austin serving- I'm guessing Florence, Italy!
I notice that your fine print doesn't include anything about determining whther your mission is the "Best Mission in the World" . . . so if I offer proof that ANY mission is the best mission in the world, do I get a prize? Ha ha, I guess that doesn't work either, because if any mission can be the best mission, than any person is closest geographically, both in proof and discussion, and in literal location, no matter where we might be in the world! So, I think you owe about a gazillion people prizes if you do it that way. . .
Aubrey, I must say, "Very good point, but I am sorry to the point that I will take the time now to clarify what the 'Best Mission in the World' is! Using Aubrey's definition, may I expound? If any mission may be considered the best mission in the world, then it may be concluded that any missionary called to serve the Lord may consider that mission, to which he has been called, 'The Best Mission in the World!' That being said, I may now state that the 'closest geographically' will still win a prize and that there will only be one winner, for I have, previous to receiving my call, decided that my mission will be 'The Best Mission in the World!'"
Let it be written
Let it be done!
p.s. after all this, Aubrey, you still have not given a guess as to where I may be called!
Melodie, You may still change your guess. For as long as I have not opened my call, guesses may be changed. However, it must be done quickly, for no one is to know when my call will arrive!
Ah, but Austin, if any missionary can consider his missionary "The Best Mission in the World", your argument just went in circles, your words changing nothing. Because you are not the only missionary in the world who's opinion matters. If, however, you change it to "The Best Mission in the World According to Austin Heywood" (ha ha, not that THAT doesn't sound presumptious ;) ), then it should satisfy all scruples. :D
And of course I haven't guessed already, you know me better than that! I'm not so great at making up my mind quickly. But once I make up my mind, I will let you know! :)
Another very valid point, Aubrey, but keep in mind that when a prize is issued to a participant in a contest there is always a judge who is to decide who the winner is! As in a hearing in the court of law, where a judge will take all pieces of evidence placed before him and find the party guilty or not guilty, I shall be the judge who has called for witnesses and testimonies to bring forth evidences that I, the Judge, may decide guilty or not guilty for each individual who is brought forth in their testimony. Therefore, with the capabilities of being able to decide whether or not someone is "guilty," it is my job to base that decision upon a law. A law, or commandment, given by the greatest judge, our Father, which has been given to me as an Elder in His Church. Although other Elders may have received their commandments, those laws, which they receive, are not applicable in my court of law!
um. . . you have a point, but your argument is flawed. you said "It is my job to base that decision upon a law." Um, since before that, you refer the "that decision" as the decision to judge the contest participants in best answer, there is no "law" laid down for that. Thus, your sentence " A law, or commandment, given by the greatest judge, our Father, which has been given to me as an Elder in His Church" is meaningless. Sure, you may have the law involving going on a mission. But that law covers nothing in the contest. That's like me using thedescription of one law's application on a totally unrelated law (if I were a legislator, going along with your analogy). Thus, while you have a valid point in declaring yourself judge of the contest as the creator of the contest, you cannot dare to cite the Lord as authority (I HATE when Jehovah's Witnesses do that, they use this same argument, btw). So you are right. But your argument is not. I pwn your argument. :) But you are right. Make sense?
